How to properly apply plastic shipping wrap to your pallets

It’s one thing to have a great product to sell and suitable packaging; it is another to ensure that the delivery process goes as smoothly as possible. Choosing to correct secure packaging for your product goes beyond just the box, especially when delivery involves shipping.

Plastic shipping wrap is an excellent method to secure your goods on a pallet and ensure safe transit for delivery. But simply knowing that plastic shipping wrap is good and purchasing it means little if you apply it correctly.

Having a tool means nothing if you can’t use it accordingly. This is why it is essential to know how to use plastic shipping wrap efficiently to be more effective in securing your pallet.

This article will discuss how to effectively and correctly use plastic shipping wrap for your next shipment and beyond.

How to properly apply plastic shipping wrap to pallets for secure shipping

  • Choose a pallet
  • Always choose a pallet that is in tip-top shape. Ensure sturdiness and no broken boards or splitting edges. Also, ensure that your pallet is the right size or close to it to secure your products. Without a pallet, there is no need for plastic shipping wrap.

  • Stack your packages
  • After choosing your pallet, you must stack your packages close together. Make sure that there isn’t much space or any space between them after being wrapped with your plastic shipping wrap because if there is any space, the wrap will loosen, resulting in an unstable load that will increase the risk of damaged goods. A great way to remove gaps between items is by using anti-slip layer sheets between the layers to help prevent movement.

  • Attach the plastic shipping wrap
  • Now is the time to put your plastic shipping wrap to use. Peel a few feet of the wrap off the roll; from there, squeeze approximately eight inches of the plastic shipping wrap into a loose rope and then thread it through and around a corner of your pallet. After this, ensure that you tie it to secure.

  • Wrap it from the base
  • Wrap the plastic shipping wrap from the base of the pallet and ensure that you keep a consistent firm stretch on the wrap. You must wrap it securely to ensure it is stable and prevent things from falling off. To be on the safe side, it is advisable to wrap it at least four times around the base while keeping the wrap tightly around the corners.

  • Take the wrapping process upward
  • Work your way up with the plastic shipping wrap and ensure that every layer you make overlaps the previous layer. Upon reaching the top, work your way back down if it is needed to stabilise the load.

  • Secure the plastic shipping wrap
  • When you are done, tear the plastic shipping wrap, stick the end to your pallet, or tuck it under one of its edges.

  • Test the load to ensure stability
  • When all is said and done, you need to test your hard work to ensure your load is stable. Check for sturdiness and ensure it will not move or shift during transit. The best way to ensure you have done your job correctly is by pushing the upper items, and if they do not move, pat yourself on the back.
